Apparently the techno-creating Moby has a "newfound respect" for rapper Eminem. His respect is stemmed from Eminem's criticizing of President Bush and the Iraq War on his last album. Perhaps the newfound respect comes from not wanting to get a beak-smack from the rapper instead? You decide.

It is assumed you already know of the beef between the two. Well, I think it's just that Eminem hates Moby. Moby claims to be a pacifist and that Eminem has a crush on him. I think the only anger I have ever heard from Moby is that time he kicked it up to 156 bpm; that crazy guy! What I find funny is that Eminem is cashing in on his troubled youth represented in the film "8 Mile". But this represented life wasn't in the past 5 years, so the troubled life would have been under the Clinton administration's economy. Nothing says selling records like a populist attitude and ignorance!

The Drudge Report has stated that Helen Thomas has vowed to kill herself if Dick Cheney runs for president in 2008.

For those of you who don't know who Helen Thomas is, allow me to refresh your memory a bit. Early sources report that Helen Thomas was hatched sometime around 14 B.C. in what is now the state of Kentucky. Deciding to be a crocthety octogenarian at an early age, Helen Thomas even went so far as to play Lon Chaney playing a morbidly horrid monster...all without makeup. Have a look:

After her brief movie career, Helen Thomas decided to work for United Press International for an astounding 57 years. She has covered every president since JFK. Helen decided to leave UPI in 2000 because the company was purchased by News World Communications, the same people who own the Washington Times; she says that had nothing to do with her resignation. Helen used to be much more respected as a journalist due to her reporting of facts vice her obviously biased questions of today. Now she is a White House correspondent.

She used to be given the respect of being able to ask the first question as well as closing with the ever-famous tagline: "Thank you, Mr. President". Thomas' habitual line-stepping has caused her to forfeit these respects due to her own ill manners. Thomas' career as a respected person ended years ago, and now it seems like she is only allowed to hang around because nobody knows what else to do with her.

DOWD'S (ALMOST) REDEMPTION

I had this teacher who, during a poetry lesson, had us read an ee cummings poem. Normally he wasn't a fan of cummings, but thought that this particular poem was important. See, it was a very cogent, powerful love poem-- completely unlike cummings' usual broken style. My teacher explained that it was impressive to watch an artist who normally dwells in the abstract, produce something of singular beauty. The fact that the beauty was unexpected had the effect of making the piece that much more impressive.

Maureen Dowd, who we've watched become completely unhinged the past few years, has recently produced such a piece. Far from her normal paranoid and juvenile rants, this is a touching, well-written piece that reminds us of why she won a Pulitzer. Unfortunately, I don't think we can expect to see this caliber of work from her again anytime soon.

STUTRAGEDY

This is the combination of stupidity and tragedy.

Britain's senior policeman has apologized to the family of Jean Charles de Menezes, who was shot five times in the head. He was mistaken for a suicide bomber as he evaded police and jumped over a turnstile at Stockwell Station, witnesses said. It is a tragedy that the family had to lose a son to stupidity. If you choose not to read the article, at least pay a bit of attention to this extract:
"He had emerged from a nearby house that was under surveillance because of a suspected link to Thursday's attempted bomb attacks. His clothing and behaviour added to the officers' suspicions."
Britain, already on edge after several suicide bombings, took this man as another attempted bomber because he was running, evading police, jumping barriers and wearing a dress similar to that of the terrorists. That should be taken into consideration before being too harsh on the officers at the Tube station; in this case, they are scrutinized for their vigilance.

JANE FONDA SURPRISES ME; BY NOT SURPRISING ME

This woman hates America.

Jane Fonda has announced a bus tour that will denounce the war in Iraq, and call for an end to US military operations in the country. Apparently, Hanoi Jane knows nothing of the need for reconstruction, nor morale of US troops. Given past antics, she does not care either. Oddly enough, she will be promoting her book I Hate America, err, My Life So Far, at the end of the bus tour. In an apparent effort to make her paltry tour look like she cares about something, she is riding in a bus fueled by vegetable oil. How noble! Dummy.

Not able to leave well enough alone (not like anyone believed her shallow apologies to begin with), she has decided to defame the US and her troops yet once again. We are lucky in the sense that there are no communist anti-aircraft batteries in the US; or she is. What would posses this alleged woman to think that she will be applauded for this 'action'? I honestly hope that there is a trail of veterans at every stop who chew Levi Garrett. I cannot even think of a word to describe this despicable person and her hatred for the US (don't even try to deny that one; to wit: what is her motivation?); if I could, it would most certainly rhyme with punt.

If you, reader, have any decency whatsoever, do your country and those who have fought so hard to preserve her freedom a favor by not supporting this vile person and not caring in the least about her "...Life So Far".

THE PRODIGY THAT ALMOST WAS

On a recent flight due to a business trip, I watched a 60 Minutes episode that brought to my attention one Marla Olmstead. This is a four year old girl who paints and is compared to Pollock. Not being an artist I can't say with any scrutiny how good her work is, or is not. What I can say is this: "hey, that looks like a 4-year old painted it!"

Supposedly a prodigy in the abstract painting arena, young Marla has already sold paintings without buyers being aware of her age (not that it matters in the least). I am not so sure that there is such thing as a 'prodigy' in abstract painting. Other types of paintings I will admit to, but not abstract art. It's just that; abstract, devoid of specific ideas or thoughts. I can just as easily throw down some random 'thoughts' on canvas with 'passion' and 'energy' and call it abstract art. As a matter of fact, I have done it in the past, unintentionally even. Next time, perhaps I will be ready with a camera or charcoal and paper to record my prodigal abstractness before the waters swirl away my masterpiece once again.

Coincidentally, I have been to some art museums before, including the Guggenheim in New York City, as well as the Hirshhorn in Washington DC and thought exactly the same thing when looking at famous artists' abstract works, that I did when looking at Marla's: "hey, that looks like a 4-year old painted it!"

What I did find disturbing in all reality was that Marla's parents seem suspect. They may in fact be socking away all of the proceeds to a trust fund for Marla, but any shred of a normal life that kid may have had are diminished quite a bit. Almost like the parents who press their children into playing sports, ballet, piano lessons, etc. I have seen video of Marla painting. It really does look like what you would expect from a 4-year old. She seems to be having fun while creating her art. That's the important part...so long as her parents realize that when she loses interest (if she does) in painting, it's OK to do so. Marla's parents apparently give her a helping hand in the creation and finishing of the paintings. I really don't care if they do or not, it's just sad that they compete with their own 4-year old daughter if that's the case. Gee mom and dad, if it's abstract, why are you messing with it, and telling her what and where to paint? Or maybe they just couldn't cut it in the art scene themselves, so they needed a gimmick? Who knows.

Frankly, I don't find it amazing in the least that a 4-year old paints at the direction of her parents. What is amazing you ask? Simply this:

Congo was rocking the art scene since 1957 and selling painting's at auction ($25,000 actually) and he's a chimp in case you didn't notice. Now, how exactly is a 4-year old painting worth mentioning again?

I was reading some art boards to get a take on the situation in the bohemian world. What I found was mixed emotions, but one important point in my opinion; when prompted to do so, a dealer and promoter (Stuart Simpson) of Marla's paintings (yes, he has a gallery and website promoting the 4-year old) made a comment that was a bit odd:
"One of the Pollock pieces just went for 15 Million, so keep up the bad talk guys, that just leaves more originals for the rest of us that are collecting them as fast as possible."
Well, gee scooter, if they are so valuable that you must hoard them, why would you set up a gallery and a website to sell them all? Maybe it's just in style at the moment? It's what's "hot" right now? Profiteering glutton.

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL ODDITIES

As of late, I have been reading a bit about anarcho-syndicalism and what I think is a parallel to that of co-determination in the sense that employees are given a certain control of their organization. I was reading the latest issue of The Economist and it has a good article on Germany's co-determination laws and an argument that they should be looked at with a more discerning eye.

Upon further reading, co-determination is in reference to two levels of employee participation; they being co-determination at the establishment level and at a level above the establishment. The main focus of The Economist article, as well as this entry, was in reference to that of co-determination at the establishment level and in relation to the supervisory board of companies. Apparently at this level, co-determination is regulated by several different statutes and pertains to the fact there are different portions of the economy as well as different sizes of companies.

In the coal, steel and iron business for example, employees are covered by the Works Constitution Act of 1952. Within this system, which is referred to as parity co-determination, states that of the 501 to 1,999 employees working for it, employee representatives may only occupy one third of the supervisory board. Another, covered by the 1976 Co-Determination Act, states that there should be equal representation from the employee side as well as the company side on the supervisory board. This is in reference to a company with 2,000+ employees. According to the company size, the supervisory board size may be determined. This is typically 12, 16 or 20 members. Within this system, if a second ballot is needed to elect a chairperson, the employee's representatives may only elect a vice-chairperson; this gives the shareholders an obvious advantage because their representation is company side.

Alongside with a harder look at Germany's co-determination laws is a better look at the structure of VW. VW is under scrutiny right now for shady bribery scandals. What is coming under fire of course is co-determination because the workers get to make some of the strategic decisions. What I read is happening, is opportunistic behavior by members of the supervisory board, and the labor portion of the equation not being given the voice that they should have.

Amazing.

This is an article about Pfc. Stephen Tschiderer, who was shot by terrorists in the chest. There is an associated video accompanying the article that shows what happened. The event was captured on video by the terrorists that did it.

Pfc. Tschiderer is instantly knocked to the ground by the round (I don't for certain know what type of round it is, but probably 7.62mm or thereabouts), and nearly instantly after that rises from the ground not to run away, but to raise his rifle to the ready as to return fire. Pfc. Tschiderer does not randomly begin shooting in the direction he thinks the shot came from, but rather cover's himself until he gets to a more secure position. At that point, he locates the van and the terrorists that did it; Tschiderer of E Troop, 101st "Saber" Cavalry Division, attached to 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, responds and wounds the terrorists.

It is Pfc. Tschiderer who handcuffs the terrorist and gives the wounded man first aid. This is a demonstration of the professionalism of our military. Not only that, but also demonstrates the outstanding NCOs of the above mentioned unit. Pfc. Tschiderer adheres to the Rules of Engagement (ROE), and rely's on his training in a professional manner as to reflect the professional, serious attitude of the situation.

I laud the NCOs as well as Pfc. Tschiderer of the 256th BCT for their actions. Thank God the terrorist 'sniper' team was not worth its salt. This demonstrates the ineptitude of them as a whole. I am also glad that these terrorists were caught and that the soldier did not perish.

Liberals, pay attention.

With the latest attacks in Iraq being against that of young kids and teenagers, I don't see how anyone can possibly think that the US is in the wrong with freeing the Iraqi people from an oppressive regime.

Up to 27 were killed in the attacks, aimed at not only US troops, but that of Iraqi youth; the very future of Iraq. If anyone thinks that US intervention had anything to do with the underlying motivation (read that as the underlying motivation of the oppressive regime that used to be in place), they are sorely mistaken. The terrorists involved are so far disconnected with any form of initial motivation for an insurgency with this attack.

US troops were handing out candy and whatnot to local children when the bomber struck. This is blatant hatred for human life; there is no other way to describe it. May all involved (include those as having the same thought process as the terrorists) burn in Hell for eternity. In its weakened state, the insurgents are scraping the bottom of the barrel for any scrap of support they can hope to muster. If anything, this will provide motivation for the Iraqi people to stand up against the terrorists and begin to divulge important information as to the whereabouts of these scumbags. May the victim's souls rest in peace.

I was just watching some late night news and they showed the orbiter being towed (I don't know where it was going) due to the latest launch slated for tomorrow. I just happened to think; the space shuttle looks like a bucket these days. The undercarriage of the space vehicle looks like my parking spot after my oil pump failed. I wouldn't be too terribly disappointed to find out that a few of my tax bucks went to throwing down a paintjob on that piece. With America dominating space, I would think that NASA would spend more time on aesthetics; send the shuttle to the NASA body shop and wash some of the soot off of it.

In all seriousness, I hope that the astronauts have a safe trip and a successful mission. Upon their return, may they be rewarded with some Dutch Boy and brushes. Unfortunately, my application sent to NASA in hopes of filling the "Door Gunner on Space Shuttle" position has been denied. Oh well, maybe next time.

Breaking News 7/14/05: The NASA launch has been scrubbed due to a faulty fuel sensor. It is good that they caught it in time, but not out of line with NASA's track record as of late. Speaking of scrubbing, now that the astronaut's have some time on their hands, might I suggest they throw down a bucket or two of soapy water and maybe a wax before the next flight?

THE USA PATRIOT ACT

A recent look into what both sides think about the USA PATRIOT Act, I have come to the conclusion that the Act is not a bad thing.

The Act is little more than a revamping of legislature already in place (in regards to terrorism). The specific legislature I am talking about would be the FISA, the USA Act, and the Financial Anti-Terrorism Act. These Acts were combined to create the PATRIOT Act. The USA Act was meant to limit the abuse of power by the CIA and FBI, thusly amending the FISA, and the Financial Anti-Terrorism Act was made to curtail the financial activities of terrorist groups.

What the PATRIOT Act does is give agencies the appropriate tools to more effectively do their jobs. I don't think this is bad. With the biggest outcry against the Act that I can find being the infringement on civil liberties, I find it a shallow reasoning to disagree with the purpose of the Act. I don't think "the" government is out to get Joe Citizen, but rather hinder and eventually quash terrorist activities. If this means detaining people that are suspected of terrorism, that's alright. As it turns out, there are quite a lot of people involved in terrorist networks. These people are systematically being weeded out and brought to justice thanks to the Act. To say that the Act has prevented a terrorist attack on US soil is something, in my opinion, that should be based on faith. I don't want to know if it did; that would mean in order to be proved wrong (i.e. a failure to prevent attacks on US soil), the cost in human lives and damage to US equities would be staggering.

What's wrong with giving agencies the tools to complete their primary function (that being to keep the US safe from terrorism)? With the SAFE Act being proposed (June of this year as I recall), there are to be checks and balances made to the PATRIOT Act and correct further abuse of power. This Act, like so many other powerful documents in US history is a living, breathing one. What's wrong with that?

Although the dead souled and humorless Man In The Arena will undoubtedly argue that a movie like Dark Water is an easy target, and that an intellectual's assault on it is both unamusing and unbecoming, you must remember that Man In The Arena also eats his own poo. SERPICO HATES DRUNKS AND FREEDOM

Our do-gooder government has deemed it appropriate to arrest people for the crime of being drunk inside their homes. Setting aside the question of what constitutes "drunk" (in this case it seems as if someone committed the crime of pissing off a cop), if this sets a legal precedent, I'm pretty much looking at spending the bulk of my future with the Maryland penal system, and all the pleasant forced sodomy that goes with it. The perp is suing on 9th amendment grounds, but if recent history is an indicator, the outlook is grim.

So to recap, you, citizen, no longer have unabridged freedom of speech, can't grow your own weed to prevent horrendous pain, can't keep your property if the government wants to build a Krispy Kreme/Shell Gas Station combo on it, and can't drink in your home.

The police and the government can do whatever they want. They can take your freedom, money, and property for the most dubious of reasons. In all honesty, sometimes this government fucking terrifies me.

SAYING YES TO SAYING YES

This weekend between fighting off delirium tremens and hunting neighborhood children with a baseball bat, I've been reading Jacob Sullum's new (at least recent) book Saying Yes: In Defense of Drug Use. The first thing that struck me about it was on the dust cover-- positive comments from both National Review and Mother Jones. This is like having both Howard Zinn and David Horowitz say something nice about you. Its just not all that common.

I'll put up more on the book when I'm finished, but am compelled to say that Sullum is able to put forth a very calm, well-reasoned argument for the legalization of all drugs. I'm looking forward to the debate that this topic will inevitably stir up between myself and the fun hating Minus.

THINK FOR YOURSELF

With certain dissent running seemingly rampant in the world and envisioned via the accessible media outlets, it is no wonder there is a perception that 'everyone' hates us, as Americans. Privileged positions as of recent, have allowed certain individuals the heartfelt right to gripe and moan about the state of things and in fact, add to this apparent dissent.

Dissent comes in many forms and it is expressed in many different ways. The perception of dissent is something that can also vary significantly, but in my opinion can have a greater effect on someone's thought process. In a recent bit of reading, I discovered that some people actually believe in the broad generalizations that would have you thinking that 'everyone' hates us. I assure you, this is not the case. This kind of thinking, however, will lead you to be more susceptible to bits of propaganda, anti-military rhetoric, failed economic and political ideologies and a general attitude that can only be described as left wanting for factual information.

Leading in the example of privileged positions being able to attain a greater portion of the collected voice of the people are celebrities. Keep in mind that not all celebrities are of this opinionated set and have no problems keeping to themselves. To say all celebrities are privy to this thought process is to buy into sweeping generalizations; that is not the intent of the writing. Celebrities for the most part, are treated as if some sort of royalty.

Lately, celebrity outbursts have provided for little more than entertainment and shock-value, but have also provided the reader a valuable insight into the world of media and celebrities. What this does, due to their status, is allow the celebrity not only disregard their perhaps once humbling attitude and trade it in for a newfound pseudo-pundit one. What's worse is the media eats this stuff up and actually allows it to air. Be it admitted, open dissent for the current administration, humanitarian efforts nearly everywhere but in the country they live, bourgeoisie lifestyles (which is not bad, if you can afford it. By this I mean at the expense of your respected careers), becoming the de facto spokespersons of ideals and religions that you normally wouldn't, etc. In the latter, these particular ideals and religions that are represented have been, in effect, turned into fashionable practices. What does this do for their image? In my opinion I say that it tarnishes them quite a bit. In your chosen line of work, you should keep in mind that what you do on a daily basis may be cause for scrutiny.

With scores of young people at the helm of the country and thirsting for something to identify themselves with, many will turn to the media for answers. What will they find? The above labeled dissent towards the greatest nation on the face of the planet, that's what. It is the same media that will have you believe that 'everyone' hates America. It is a matter of reporting the truth, not some isolated incidents and then pawning it off on the unsuspecting public as doctrine for an entire nation. For example, if all I see on television all the time is reporters, columnists and the like writing about how awful the government is and how great 'other' economic and political structures are, that is all that I will have to reference, unless I choose to see for myself.

My travel hasn't been all that limited, but not all that extensive either. I have been to some places that I wouldn't wish anyone else to see; had experiences that I would not like others to share. All in all, everywhere I have gone, even the third world countries and the industrial giants, I have not seen anti-American sentiment. What I have seen is a dissent to the host country government by the host country's people, if any sort of dissent at all. For the most part, what I have seen was not a love of America, but in some cases, a jealousy of American ways and more often than not, a curiosity of American ways. What I am suggesting is that people don't perpetuate the negative image of America that the media puts out; rather base your thought process and claims on your own experiences and don't claim them for an entire people or nation. Don't take the media or loud-mouthed celebrities as your guides. Think for yourself.

Again, with no particular links or articles to point to, this is just a few words to the British people who are going on with their daily lives. They were faced with the worst attack since WWII yesterday, yet they continue to perform their daily routines without hindrance. This sends out a message to the terrorists who did this: you don't affect our lives as much as you would like to think that you do. You are wasting your time on tired ideals that will get you exactly nowhere.

Anyway you look at it, the attack did very little to promote anything; if that was the goal of the terrorists. It's almost as if it was perpetrated by some other group. The economy was scarcely affected, 10 of 12 routes in Britain are opened back up today, and people were not afraid to use public transportation and continued to go to work. The days of the terrorists are numbered; that is certain.

That is the mark of a strong, steadfast ally.

There is no need for links to the recent terrorist attacks in London as it is all over the news. I pray that the scumbags that are responsible will be brought to justice. According to Germany's Der Spiegel website, a group calling itself "The Secret Organization of al-Qaeda in Europe" claimed responsibility. You can bet that Britain is all over this group and will act without remorse. With the start of the G8 Summit in Scotland and the announcement of London as the host of the 2012 Olympics, those could be possible reasons for the attacks, or just events made to coincide with premeditated attacks.

THEY PROVIDE LITTLE MORE THAN ENTERTAINMENT...

Ah, protestors.

While I can understand that all they allegedly want to do is exercise their 'democratic rights' and do it peacefully; I cannot understand how that is accomplished by the enormous waste of resources required to babysit these riot-inciting mongrels. I have only witnessed one type of 'peaceful' protest; me yelling at my television. With over 60 arrests and 7 police injured so far, they are still claiming that it is peaceful.

I guess it is, and always has been fashionable to consider yourself a 'hippy'. What's bothersome about that though, is the fact that the hippy movement is long gone. They serve no purpose at all anymore. The hippy had their day; many were successful at it and in fact, did protest peacefully...dope will do that to a person. Now, society is faced with their seed and soap sales have dropped dramatically. Whereas the forefathers used hemp for survival, neo-hippies use it as a mechanism to cling on to ideas too far gone to salvage.

At least one outcome may be of a positive light: due to the G8 Summit we may be able to see a neo-hippy protestor waste his time and ours all while catching billy club to the skull on international TV. Tye Dyed Dummies.

Never, forget where you come from. Try and remember that in its short, 229 year existence this country in which we live has managed to become the most powerful nation on the planet. Some would like to try and reject that very thought; however, it is an undeniable fact. Agreed, a select few of them would most certainly not be missed, but for the most part, they are an important staple of this nation. Take a moment and thank the soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors that defend the nation from invaders; and for taking the fight to their doorstep, and for not letting them reach our shores. Remember the Pledge of Allegiance as well, it is seldom found in the school system any longer, but don't forget it and what the words actually mean.

al-Zarqawi has supposedly made a videotape of suicide bombings against US troops as well as police across Iraq. These fools must really be hurting if they are putting garbage like this out; due to the fact it can already be found at places like Consumption Junction. Not noted for their computer skills (come to think of it, no skills at all come to mind), these terrorists (al-Zarqawi and bin Laden) are more than likely creating a montage of played out videos and dubbing some burgeoning voice actor's words via the tired message of one of the two aforementioned idiots. One part of the article says that a portion of the video shows suicide bombers laughing with many weapons nearby. We have institutions for people like this. It is unbelievable that these imbeciles think they are actually doing something for the good of the people.

Making tapes is getting lame. Tupac and Hendrix are still cutting albums even though they are deceased. I think that al-Zarqawi and bin Laden are either close to, or already there. I can see it now: but someone said something about 72 virgins! I was duped! Tapes of mindless drones laughing are nothing compared to the collective will of a nation laughing at you and yours dummies. I am willing to bet that rather than collect the offered prize of $50 Million USD, most, if not all, would rather spend $0.24 on a couple of well placed .223, .308, or .50 cal rounds instead.

I once saw David Yeagley on a television show (I don't remember which one...I think it was C-SPAN), and frankly, was impressed by what he had to say. Yeagley, a Comanche Indian from Oklahoma has pointed out that Ward Churchill's 'Indian' bloodline runs about as deep as a purely planar surface; he now faces ridicule from leftist morons who have nothing better to do with their time. He has pointed out that people like Ward Churchill (as despicable as it may be), hate America.

Even Miss Wheelchair 2004 has decided to get a piece of the action. She is a member of the Kiowa tribe and apparently takes her mind off of her arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (she is a quadriplegic) by starting rumors about David Yeagley. Some compare Yeagley to Churchill's counterpart on the right; I think that he gets a bum rap. Yeagley doesn't go around comparing people that are concerned about Indian blood to Nazi's as Ward likes to do.

Ward would simply not be in the predicament that he is had he chosen to keep his pseudo-Indian trap shut. He is typical of Republic of Boulder liberal/leftist thought process. On the other hand, you have Miss Wheelchair 2004 spinning tripe about other people that don't concern her in the least.
